Performing at Disney

Mr. Winkey and I got some exciting emails today. Disney has given us our performance times! We are excited to be performing in Downtown Disney on their Waterside Stage March 18, 2014. The band will perform at 1:30 eastern time and the choir at 4:00 eastern time. It is really exciting for us to be getting information from Disney! It reminds us of just how close our trip is getting...only 100 days from today, according to the count down on this blog.

We finished the butter braid fundraiser last week, and the kids did a really good job. We made more than $3,000 profit. The braids themselves come in on Monday Dec 9, and will be available to pick up after school. Please pick them up as soon after school as possible as it is also the night of the concert. Luckily, it will be really cold outside, so your car will act as a freezer till you can get them delivered.

Hope to see everyone at our Winter Concert Dec. 9, 2013 at 7:45pm in the High School Gym.

Butter Braid Reminder

Hello again,
I just wanted to remind everyone that Butter Braid forms and money are due back to the HS on Monday Nov. 25. I am sending the order in on the 26th no matter what. It sounds like the kids have been out selling so hopefully we have a good turn out. They will be delivered on Dec. 9, 2013. That is the night of the High School Concert, but the braids are coming in early afternoon so they should be picked up after school is possible. I hope that everyone has a good holiday.

Butter Braids Are Here!

Hello!
We are excited to announce that we are starting Butter Braids sales today! I know that the community has been asking about it so it is time for us to get started. We will be selling from Nov. 14- Nov. 25. I will send in our order to the company on Nov. 26. the day right before our Thanksgiving break. Students will receive $6 for every braid they sell and the money they earn will be added to their accounts for the January payment.

We will also be working concessions Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Jan. 23, and Feb. 7.

We have now made three payments on our trip and have two left. The next payment of $230 is due January 7 and the final payment will be due February 7. We will have the final total for the February payment after the January payment.

Mr. Winkey asked the kids the other day what they were looking forward to with the trip so I thought I would share a couple of their answers. Thanks for stopping by.

I went to Florida in June, but I'm excited to go back for a week and go back to Disney, and the beach. Hopefully I can go on some rides I missed last time. I'm excited to spend it with my friends! When we went we went to Cocoa Beach, and I think that's where we're going? It's really nice :)
                                                                                                                -Abbie

On the Florida trip, I'm looking forward to just be going to Florida in general! I've never been, unlike most of the people I talk to. I'm excited to spend a week with my band family. And I'm excited for the beach. And the tan I'm praying to get.

October Update

Hello!
Sorry it has taken me so long to put in another update, but we have been really busy in the music department as of lately.

Fundraising-
Thank you to everyone who bought, sold, or painted paw prints. We made about $900 profit on the paws so we did really well. They all look really great out and about throughout our towns. Go Cougars!

Our next fundraiser is our annual Butter Braid sale, and the community is starting to look for them! We will begin our sale Nov. 14 and go through Nov. 25. We back upped the dates a little to accommodate  the musical so they will miss Thanksgiving but will be in for Christmas. Students should get $6 a braid. They are also introducing a chocolate braid, so there will be something new for all you chocolate lovers.

Payments-
We made our Oct. payment for the trip and are now looking forward to the one in November. This payment is $230 instead of $100 and is due Nov. 1. We will be contributing the fundraising to this payment as well, but it will not include the money earned from Butter Braids as we will not sell until after the payment is due. I am going to hand out information about how much each student owes in the next few days. If your fundraising covers the payment, I won't give them a paper. If you are curious, the payment amount is on My Big Campus in the Music Trip Group Resources. Your student will need to sign in to see it, or if you would like send me an email and I will pass along the information. There is not a payment in December.

I didn't get to ask any of the students what they are looking forward to before I sat down to write this, I will try and do that in the next few days, but I can ask Mr. Winkey. He jokingly said the sun and I agree, but he also said that he is excited to have the student perform in an environment that is so different from the environment we perform in here. He is excited to give them new opportunities. Besides the sun and Harry Potter World, I am excited to see your  kids perform for an international audience and to create memories that they will carry with them for all of their lives.

Thanks for catching up with us, and if you have nothing else to do Nov. 9-10 you should come check out the musical Back to the 80s. Saturday Nov. 9's show is at 7pm with a dinner theater at 6pm. and Sunday Nov. 10's show is at 2pm. Tickets to the show are $5 and to the dinner theater are $15 (it includes the ticket for the show). Show tickets are available at both banks in Ackley or can be purchased at the show, and dinner theater tickets are available from Carol in the HS office.

Mid-September update

Did you know that we leave for Florida in less than 180 days? It seems like a lot but with as busy as things are around here, it will be time to go before we know it!

I have been talking to some of the kids going on the trip and asking them what they are looking forward to doing while we are in Florida. Ian H. says that he is excited to ride Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom. Jess L. says she is excited to go to all the mini musical shows in the parks. Sophie S. is excited to go to the beach.

Our next payment is due Oct. 1. Most of our students' payments will be covered by fundraising, but a few will need to make payments. Paw print fundraising money will not be added to accounts until after Oct. 11. If you need to know what to pay or how much is in your fund raising account check out the Florida Trip Group on My Big Campus (you will need to use your child's account) in the resources, there is a spread sheet with the information. Use your student number (in JMC where you check their grades, or on their report card is their student number. It is at the top after the school year....for example Kim Medick         2013-2014        #999.) to find your account. If you have questions please let Miss Medick know.

We are continuing to sell paw prints and house numbers at two more games, 9/27 at the homecoming football game and 10/1 at the home volleyball game. I could still use some helpers for the homecoming game, please let me know if you would like to help, 6:15-7:45 and 7:45 to the end of the game.

I will try and keep updating as we go. Thanks for stopping by.

Deposit is in!

Hello everyone,
Good News, our deposit is in the mail! We will have 34 students, 5 adults, and 2 directors traveling to Florida in March. We are so excited. Now that we know who is going on the trip with us, we should know the official cost of the trip soon. The next $100 payment will be due Oct. 1 and will include fund raising money. I will let everyone know what their payment will be.

We are also in the middle of our first fundraiser of the year. We are selling Paw Prints for your driveway or House Numbers for the curb. We will come and paint these in Oct. The paw prints come in purple of blue and cost $25 the house numbers are $10. We will also add a name or number to your paw print for $5, or touch up existing paws and numbers for $15 and $5 respectively. We are selling the next two weeks at the volleyball and football games so support our music students by showing your school spirit and tell your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Trip Letter and Hello

Hello and welcome to the blog about our trip to Florida in March 2014!
If you are visiting this blog, I assume you already received our letter about the trip. Mr. Winkey and I are really excited about this great opportunity, we are also really excited about Harry Potter World, but mostly about helping your students have a great musical experience. As the year goes, I plan to update this blog with information about payments, fund raising, other trip information, and interviews with the students. If you have questions please feel free to contact me or Mr. Winkey at anytime. Our contact information is below and in the letter you received. In this blog post I am going to include the letter we sent out in late July about the trip and the meeting on Aug. 22, 2013. I will update some more as we get closer to August, so until then, enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you Aug. 22.

Eligibility:
Students who will be in High School during the 2013-2014 school year and have been enrolled in music during the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school year will be eligible to attend the trip. Students must also agree to abide by our good conduct policy, which will be distributed at the meeting Aug. 22. Four (4) chaperones will be needed for this trip! Preference will be given based on someone who can accompany the choir, followed by parents of a music student attending the trip. Chaperones will have a highly reduced rate of $200! We ask for the $100 deposit and then another $100 for the trip ($200 total). If you are interested, please send us an email ASAP! (kmedick@agwsr.org or twinkey@agwsr.org). Chaperones will be chosen once all applicants have been submitted, discussed, and chosen by the directors.

Cost:
The overall cost of the trip depends on how many students attend. The more students who go, the cheaper per person, and vise versa. The final price will not be set until after the September 1st deposit. The trip will most likely be just over $900. This price includes the bus, hotel and nighttime security, entrance into all parks, Pirate Dinner Theater, $45 on a meal card for inside the Disney parks, a meal at the NASCAR Sports Grille, and breakfasts at the hotel. Students will need to spend some of their own money as well, so we recommend bringing $100-$200 based on how much your student wants to spend. The payment plan is included below. Fundraising will begin to be applied on the Oct. 1 payment. The initial deposit must be paid for without fundraising. Your student has $_______ in their fundraising account. There will be more fundraising opportunities during the year. If the financial burden of this trip is the only reason your student is not or cannot go, PLEASE let either of us know and we can see what we can do. We do not have the means to help everyone, but there may be a way for us to help in some way.

Payment Schedule:

September 1 - $100 deposit (non-refundable)
October 1 - $100
November 1- $230
January 7 - $230
February 7 - Final Balance ($230-250 depending on final cost based on number of students on the trip)

We are both very excited about this opportunity for our students and the music department! The music trips both of us participated in as students are some of our favorite memories from our high school music experiences. Our performances at Disney and Universal will provide our students with a chance to perform for an international audience! Music trips provide students the opportunity to bond with one another outside of school and will make memories that will last a lifetime! We will also be putting updates on our trip blog, which can be viewed at http://agwsrmusicflorida2014.blogspot.com/ We hope to fill in the details and answer most of your questions at the August meeting, but if you have questions please feel free to email or call either Mr. Winkey or Miss Medick, and we will do our best to answer them. Thank you for your support of our students and the music program! We hope to see you Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the Vocal Room.

Sincerely,
Tyler Winkey twinkey@agwsr.org
Kim Medick kmedick@agwsr.org
